GRECO is the Council of Europe's Group of States against Corruption. It was established in 1999 to monitor compliance by Member States with the Council of Europe's anti-corruption standards. Today, GRECO published a compliance report on the implementation of recommendations made during a fourth round evaluation of Ireland in relation to preventing corruption among the judiciary, prosecutors and members of parliament. The original report made 11 recommendations to Ireland. The enactment of the Judicial Council Bill, the Judicial Appointments Commission Bill and the Public Sector Standards Bill will address most of the outstanding recommendations. These bills are on course to be enacted this year, which will ensure Ireland’s compliance with the recommendations before they report to GRECO again in March 2018.
